Penpal message / wishes:
I am a 25-year-old man from Croatia: an aspiring writer and a poet, as well as a movie buff. I am looking for a woman penpal from anywhere in the world, ages 18 to 30. Somebody to discuss literature, movies, love, hope, aspirations, and simply life, with. Freely and honestly.

My interests, other than reading and writing, include horror movies, fantasy genre and romantic movies. I also have a great intetest in Croatian cinematography in particular, which I consider to be quite underrated. I also have a soft spot for Canadian cinematography, which is arguably even more neglected.

Some of my favorite Croatian movies are: "Djevojka i hrast", "H-8", "Rondo", "Tko pjeva zlo ne misli", "Putovanje na mjesto nesreće", "Seljačka buna", "Izbavitelj", "Ritam zločina", "Treći ključ", "Sokol ga nije volio", "Glembajevi", "Vrijeme ratnika", "Treća žena", "Ispod crte", "Konjanik", "Ta divna splitska noć", "Metastaze", "The Show Must Go On", "ZG-80" and "Zora". I have written detailed reviews/essays for all of them. My favorite Canadian movies are: "Kissed", "Montreal Stories", "Faith, Fraud & Minimum Wage" and "Cosmos".

Some of my favorite books are: "Tales of Terror by Edgar Allan Poe" (my favorites being Black Cat, The Fall of the House of Usher and Pit and the Pendulum), "Germinal" by Emille Zola, "Inferno" by Dante Alighieri, "Crime and Punishment" and "Tales from Underground" by Fjodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky, "Romeo and Juliet", "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare (though I much prefer seeing them performed in theatre), "Frankenstein" by Mary Wolstonecraft Shelley, "Dracula" by Bram Stoker, "Interview with the Vampire" by Anne Rice, "Carrie" and "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King, and "Lessons from a Dead Girl" by Jo Knowles.

As for my favorite horror movies, I would say: "Jacob's Ladder", "Angel Heart", "Halloween" (only the first/original one from 1978), "The Exorcist", "Frailty" (well, that one is closer to supernatural thriller than horror, but still), "Psycho", "The Shining", "Birds", "The Cremator/Spalovač mrtvol", "Witchfinder General", "Sinister", "Campfire Tales" (1997), "Scream" trilogy, "I Know What You Did Last Summer", "Urban Legend", "The Day of the Beast/El dia de la Bestia" and "Don't Breathe".

I also really like "Interview with the Vampire", "Citizen X", "The Sixth Sense", "Manhunter", "The Silence of the Lambs" and "The Crow" (only the first movie from 1994), though I wouldn't really consider them full-on horror. And "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies", though that one is a horror-comedy! (IMO, one of the nest horror-comedies over the last 20+ years.)

While my favorite fantasy movies are "Conan the Barbarian" (John Milius' original from 1982), "Legend", "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Mummy" (1999 version) and "Ondine".

Some of my favorite romance movies are "Before Sunrise", "Before Sunset", "A Walk to Remember", "Tuck Everlasting", "The Purple Rose of Cairo", "Loving Leah", "Summer with Monika/Sommaren med Monika", "Serendipity", "10 Things I Hate About You" and "A Star is Born" (2018 version).
