We know everything inside our little space. It's safety. We can look out at our immediate surroundings to see what is going on without the fear of getting hurt, but beyond what we see is a whole new world that we hardly even know exists. It's an amazing world full of wondrous things, where people live very different lives to our own, but the imaginary walls of our goldfish bowl are there to keep us safe. Or are they?
But who sets the boundaries of our little world? Our parents? Our peers? The society we live in? Ourselves?
It's not just about travel, it's about who we are and what we see as being right or wrong. Sure, it's not right to take something that belongs to someone else, or to hurt someone who is vulnerable, but there are many other instances where we are told that being a certain way, or believing in a certain thing is right and everything else is wrong.
Cut me open and I have the same internal organs as everyone else. My brain may work differently, but it's the same size and shape as most people. I have blue eyes and pale skin. I am 1.82m tall. I am 80% vegetarian because I like vegetables. I have a very creative mind. None of these things make me better than you, just different. My personal beliefs are personal. The type of person I am attracted to is personal. My political standing is personal. My personal preferences may cause upset to some, but only because those people think their preferences are right and mine are wrong. These people will always be stuck in a small goldfish bowl created by someone else, while I live in the sea :)
I love life, but it's full of goldfish :)
Btw, I have been swimming for over 55 years, but that's just a number. You are as young as you feel.
